My Wii console review

My review of the Nintendo Wii

I bought the Wii about 6 months after it hit American shores. It was a little hard too find. Once I decided I wanted one, it took about two weeks too track it down.
I didn’t buy any games with it, but did get an extra nun-chuck add-on controller. I quite enjoyed playing Wii Sports, and it didn’t take me too long to become pro in the sports.
Creating Mii’s was fun. I created a whole bunch to represent my friends and family and I like they way they pop up in the background.
Other features of the Wii I like include.

Internet access. Great for watching YouTube clips and general surfing.
Weather channel so I can see what is going on where my Parents, and friends live in Spain and England. I am now living in America.
News channel I used from time to time.
I like the way it shows photo’s from a memory stick.

What was disappointing for me was the lack of quality games once Wii Sports was finish. Zelda looked good and still does but I’m not spending $50 on a 2 year old game.

My next game was Super Mario Galaxy. I enjoyed the first half of the game, and grinded my way through the second half. Over all, pretty good game. Very good if your into platform games (I’m not, but was desperate for a descent Wii game)

I purchased Wii Fit recently. It’s not fun to play but since it’s all about getting fit, perhaps that’s just life.

Since I own the Xbox 360, PS3, and the Wii, I will ask the same questions for each machine.

My thoughts on graphics.
In-between generations I think. Not last gen, not this gen, somewhere in the middle.
They get the job done, but they will never blow you away, even with AAA titles like Mario Galaxy.

My thoughts on sound.
Again, pretty basic. No 7.1 going on here. Gets the job done.

My thoughts on the controllers.
I still feel they haven’t touched on the real potential of the control system.
This is the Wii’s only ace in the hole.

My thoughts on games.
Worst of the three. A constant un-ending stream of crap.
Every day I check IGN sections on Wii, PC, Xbox 360, and PC.
Normally on the others I find at least something interesting to read, but the Wii just disappoints me.

I am a little interested in a new fit game coming out. I was highly interested in Six flags game. I mean a game based on a theme park with motion controls should be awesome but it isn’t. It’s just another “Lets milk this cash cow with a 5 minute production time game.” When crap like Game Party can sell 1 million copies, you know the Wii is in trouble.

Some reviews on Game Party.
32% IGN
The wave of Wii shovelware has officially begun.

Game Party is undeserving of the Wii. The games on display are awful, but the execution manages to be even worse. There is absolutely no fun to be had here, just frustration in large doses.

Over all quality of games – Using MetaCritic as a scource.

Number 1 Game – Super Mario Galaxy (Rating 97)
Number 10 Game – Boom Blox (Rating 85)
Number 50 Game - Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution (Rating 74)
Number 100 Game - Castle of Shikigami III (Rating 67)
Number 200 Game - V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (Rating 49)
Last Game on the list – Spog Racing (Rating 18)

48 games out of 255 were rated GOOD
150 games out of 255 were rated AVERAGE
57 out of 255 were rated POOR

So more poor games than good.

My overall impressions.
The Wii is my least favorite of the 3 if you can’t tell by now. Owned it for over a year and only having 2 games. That makes it my least popular machine in 30 years of gaming. However, I do own a PC and 2 other consoles all clamoring for my attention. I doubt I will invest in the next Nintendo machine, but I do intend to keep the Wii till it breaks. I still feel there is some hope for the machine otherwise I would have sold it by now.

My rating
6/10
